Traveling and Photography

Traveling a lot? Trouble choosing the correct lens? I have settled on my Canon 28-200mm F3.5-5.6. I've selected this lens for multiple reasons:

  • Light weight,
  • Compact,
  • Wide angle (28mm),
  • Plenty of zoom capability (200mm), and
  • Relatively inexpensive in case of loss, damage or theft.

This seems like a good Canon-based single lens choice. From a Nikon system perspective, I've got a Tamron 28-300 lens that I use for travel, but don't like from a picture quality standpoint (Nikon mount). I've recently begun using 2 lenses for travel: 1) The 18-70mm, f3.5-5.6 Nikkor kit lens, and 2) The old 70-210mm, f4 Nikkor (Nikon doensn't sell this lens anymore).

This requires a lens change in certain instances, but it also gives a broad focal range (from 18mm to 210mm). Nikon recently launched an 18-200mm VR lens that's getting decent reviews. Maybe somebody will give it to me for Xmas.
