University of Notre Dame (a.k.a God's Country)

I'll be posting lots of pictures in the future from the University of Notre Dame (http://www.nd.edu/), but this photo really stands out in my mind. This is the infamous Golden Dome used as the administration building in the center of campus......one of the most historical university structures in the country.

I like finding objects in the foreground (e.g. trees) to frame the picture better.

MES Zoo

The MES Zoo is located in Parker City, Indiana (http://www.meszoo.com/). It's a small zoo with a great collection of animals: a lion, 3 tigers, leopards, cougars, bears, monkeys, lemurs, a camel, a full collection of deer, buffalo, and many others.

The zoo is situated around a beautiful 100 year old farm house that holds tens of thousands of lights during Christmas seaon.

When photographing zoo animals, it pays to have some stretch in your lens. Most of these were taken with my 70-200 mm f2.8 (L) which provides plenty of flexiblity for distance, but also takes crytal clear photos.

Sunset

This was taken on Ice Lake in Ontario, Canada at 5:30 am. It's one of the most beautiful, peaceful places to go. It's located on Manitoulin Island, the largest fresh water island in the world (http://www.manitoulin-island.com/). I slowed the f-stop way down for this one since the sun was just beginning to rise.

Beach

These pictures are from various beaches in both Florida and Hawaii. Taking shots with blue water on bright sunning days can be difficult due to the reflection of the sand.

Friends

The girls tied 1 - 1 in their first ever high school soccer battle. They've been playing together for years in club soccer, but now it's serious :)

These shots make it all worth while. My friend took this with his Nikon D70.

Mia Hamm - The Best!

One of my favorite photos was this Mia Hamm corner kick taken in Blaine, MN during a scrimmage game against the Womens Canadian National Team, 2003.

The eye of the tiger!

This is Bobbie, a White Tiger at the MES Zoo in Parker City, Indiana. Very intense.

What's Nikon doing on a Canon Blog?

Even though my friend likes his Nikon, I don't hold that against him. We both love going down on the field to take photos of our kids.
