Some nice shots of the latest ice storm in Michigan.......I used my 300mm f4 lens for these, which I normally don't get to use until soccer season starts.
I have now confirmed the best settings for shooting basketball.......85mm/f1.8 lens, aperture setting, shutter speed 400+ (tailored by changing the exposure level) and ISO 800........and a little luck.
After trying several different lenses like my 24-70 f2.8 L, 70-200 f2.8 L, and 17-40 f4 L, I finally purchased (actually Santa brought it) an 85mm f1.8 prime Canon lens. I crank up the ISO to 800 (maximum for me, so that I keep the grain at a manageable level), set the camera on Aperture mode, while ensuring the shutter speed reaches 400+. Here are the results:
