It's always best to get up close and personal.

World Cup Soccer

Taking shots during a recent Typhoon in Shanghai, China was all but fun. However, the location was awesome....2007 FIFA Women's World Cup Soccer. The lighting wasn't too bad, but the conditions were awful. I usually take my 28-200mm f3.5-5.6 Canon lens when I travel for simplicity. Not the best lens for action shots, but better than no shots at all.

You can see all of the shots on my web site.

Soccer or the Ballet

Capturing players at the height of their jump creates some great shots because they are effectively not moving at the peak....so the clarity and sharpness really come through.

High School Soccer at Night

Shooting at night is always a challenge, but trying to capture the speed of boys high school soccer is a whole new level. I shot this with a Canon 300mm f2.8 lens (non IS), 1600 ISO and 800 shutter speed. I always try to stand directly under the field lights to allow as much light as possible.

High School Football Photography

Well, I took my new Canon 300mm f2.8 for a ride on the gridiron Friday night. Although I feel pretty special on the field during soccer games with such a big lens, the football field is covered with Canon 400 f2.8 lenses from the local newspapers. Nonetheless, it was a new and exciting experience.....and a little tricky as well.

Football Photography

Peter Read Miller, staff photographer for Sports Illustrated, provides a complete set of video tutorials for shooting football....from the quarterback to the the defense and everything in between. I plan to use some of these tips tomorrow night at my first high school football game. Of course, he's a Canon guy!

Canon 40D

Bob Atkins writes a great article of the new 40D, and his verdict is to buy! Upgrading from the 20D to the 30D just didn't seem like a wise investment....that was Bob's viewpoint as well. My friend (Ranmac) also convinced me to wait until the next model. The 40D looks like a great Christmas gift (if I can wait).

Photos with My 300mm f2.8

I finally got to try my recent purchase....Canon 300mm f2.8 lens. I can definitely tell the difference in my photo quality as compared to my 70-200mm f2.8 lens. The sharpness is really awesome. It's AF speed is also great attribute.
