Basketball Photos with Mark II

Using the Canon Mark II at 8.5 fps with Canon's 85mm f1.8 (ISO 1250, 1/1000 shutter speed) yields great shots:

High School Basketball Photography (Boys and Girls)

Check out the attached set of basketball pictures on my Smugmug site (Boys and Girls). I was using two cameras for the first time....a new challenge. I had Canon Mark II with a 85mm f1.8 prime lens (ISO 1000, shutter 1000) and a Canon 20D with a 70-200mm f2.8 (ISO 1600, shutter 640).

I try to always sit under the basket of the team's offense that I am photographing. Then I typically use the 85mm on the close end and use the 70-200 on the far end (but sometimes I switch them up). The 85mm f1.8 really provides impressive results......pictures are sharper and brighter. Don't forget to get some great shots of the crowd and cheerleaders as well.

Basketball Photography

Well, I took my new EOS-1D Mark II out for a spin today at my son's basketball game. 8.3 fps is awesome. I also like the ability to specify the ISO in smaller increments than the 20D (e.g. 1000 & 1250) versus jumping all the way to 1600. I'm still learning about the camera as it's quite a bit more complicated than the 20D.

I shot these at ISO 1000, f1.8, 800 shutter speed.
